The aim of the workshop is to develop in dancers a sort of “conscious participation” in improvisation in a variety of contexts.

Every day of the workshop begins with exercises that emphasize the connections between thought, movement and presence in the here-and-now surroundings. Working on conscious reception of sensory stimuli that reach us from the surrounding reality, we obtain new means which help us to realize that every moment in which we are involved in some kind of action carries a compositional potential.

The subsequent part of the workshop consists of examples of schematic and totally free improvisation with elements of dance, music, text and light. Through theory and practice the workshop participants will become involved in a process in which they will collectively experience (become a part of) a spontaneous composition.

Michael Schumacher for many years danced in Williama Forsythe's group Ballet Frankfurt, now, as one of the most important artists-improvisers in Europe, he co-operates with the famous Amsterdam-based group of choreographers and performers MagPie Music Dance Company, at the same time giving workshops around the world devoted to movement analysis and improvisational techniques. He is also constantly active as a dancer – in 2004 the Poznań audience could see him in Anouk van Dijk's show STAU.
